Bogstad Vinterparadis - A combination of Bandy and Golf

To combine BANDY—one of the most popular winter sports in Scandinavia—with GOLF sounds like an impossible task. But at Oslo Golfklubb, the world-renowned and oldest golf club in Norway and the home club of Rolex World Ranking No. 5 Suzann Pettersen, it’s a dream that’s about to become reality. In an innovative approach, the club has reached an agreement with Oslo-based bandy club Röa Bandy to reconstruct its driving range, turning it into Bogstad Vinterparadis the largest artificially frozen arena in northern Europe, during the winters.

The €4.25 million facility will become home to the very successful and active Röa Bandy club from November 1^st through April 1^st every year, with 4 centimeters of ice covering the high-performance artificial-turf driving range. After that, the freezing process is reversed and the sophisticated cooling system will thaw the ice and snow from the driving range to give the members of Oslo Golfklubb an early start to the golf season.

 To make this unique combination possible, the Bogstad facility will have Capillary Concrete®  base layer installed under the artificial turf. This new product has the ability to drain over 2000 mm of water per hour (even on steep slopes), and will be utilized to safely remove excess water and keep the artificial grass in place. The product is an engineered, polymer based, special sports base that can take heavy traffic and yet drains extremely well.

Asia Golf Show in China huge success for Sternberg Golf and CapillaryC bunker liner!

During the 2011 Asia Golf Show in Guangzhou, China, Sternberg Golf has connected with over 50 current golf course construction projects and over 75 projects currently in the planning stages. The current ban on golf construction from the authoriites in China has caused many projects to either stop or slow down, but the growing golf business in this part of the world is a strong reflection of the Chinese society and development. Chinese people want to play golf, live on golf courses and they love the competitive challenge of the game. We have worked with golf for over 30 years in over 15 countries, but never have I seen a better match between the game and mentality of a people. There will be many golf courses built in this country. A very large number, most likely, but in the future not on farmland. China has 25% of all mouths in the world to feed, but only 7% of the available farmland in the world. The future of golf in China is most likely going to be more environmentally targeted and adapted. But there will most definetely be a future, there is just no going back now.

  Strong first day at Asia Golf Show in Guanzhou, China

1990 - 1 course, 2011 - 650 courses, 2020 - ??  Some people in industry say China will have 2000 courses by the year 2020. By the interest and traffic at the 2011 Asia Golf Show in Guanzhou that number may well be higher. We have never seen such interest in construction ever at a show, and everywhere you turn here there are plans being made for new golf projects. With our bunker liner product CC, we have had tremendous response, and met with representatives for over 35 new projects in the first day.
